HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Two-time champion Stewart Cink moved into position for a third RBC Heritage title, shooting a second straight 63 to set the 36-hole scoring mark at Harbour Town. Cink, 47, appears unstoppable after two amazing days. He sits at 16-under 126, five shots ahead of Corey Conners. The previous best midway score was 129, set by Jack Nicklaus en route to victory in 1975 and matched by Phil Mickelson, who wound up third in 2002. Conners shot 64 and was 11 under. Emiliano Grillo (64) was another shot behind. Fourth-ranked Collin Morikawa, preparing to defend his PGA Championship title next month, was tied for fourth at 9-under with Sungjae Im (65), Billy Horschel (67) and Cameron Smith, who followed his opening-round 62 with a 71. Cink was hardly overwhelmed by the scores he posted, chalking them up to smart preparation and strong execution alongside his 24-year-old son, Reagan, who’s caddying for him. “It doesn’t feel all that special, to be honest with you,” Cink said. “We just kind of worked our game plan.” It was certainly unexpected. Cink hasn’t finished in the top 20 at Harbour Town in a decade, hadn’t led halfway since the Travelers Championship in 2008 and is closer to the PGA Tour Champions than his prime. Yet Cink has had a renaissance on golf’s biggest stage this season. He won for the first time in 11 years at the Safeway Open in September and has added five top-20 finishes including a tie for 12th last week at the Masters. Cink was down three shots to Conners when he teed off Friday. No matter. Cink quickly erased the deficit with an eagle on the par-5 second and a birdie on No. 3. Cink moved in front with a birdie on the sixth and steadily built his margin the rest of the way, adding birdies on the 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th holes. Cink says having son Reagan as caddie ‘a huge help’ The veteran is two solid rounds away from adding a third plaid jacket to the two he earned in 2000 and 2004. In both of those wins, Cink came from behind on Sunday. This time he’ll need to just maintain his strong overall play. Since Reagan became his caddie, father and son have been collaborating on strategy before tournaments. “We call it bludgeoning and we’re just bludgeoning that plan almost to death,” the elder Cink said with a grin. “When you manage yourself around a course like that and execute, the golf courses yield.” Conners entered the week with Masters momentum, having tied for eighth at Augusta National for his second top-10 finish there in five months. He birdied seven of his final 13 holes. “Giving myself lots of chances and was really nice to see some go in,” Conners said. “Hopefully, can keep that up going into the weekend.” Morikawa had chances, too, He had seven birdie opportunities from 20 feet or less on his final nine holes, but the only one that dropped was an 18-footer on No. 6. Morikawa said changing wind conditions made it difficult to judge green speeds. “It was tough not seeing a few birdies in,” he said. “But we’ll work on a few things and be fine for the weekend.” RBC Heritage: Full-field scores | Full coverage Smith, who was bogey-free in his opening 62, dropped three shots in a five-hole stretch on Friday. “I think the golfing gods got a few back on me today,” the Australian said. Top-ranked Dustin Johnson used a back-nine surge to avoid his second straight missed cut and after leaving the Masters early, returning only to slip the green jacket on new champ Hideki Matsuyama. Consecutive bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes at Harbour Town dropped him to 1-under, but four birdies coming in gave him a 67 and left him 11 shots behind Cink. Those going home included Patrick Cantlay, Harris English, Sergio Garcia and Kevin Na, all among the top 30 in the FedEx Cup point standings this season.
Amey carried out overnight repairs on the bridge in December and used the spreader beam to lift a 35-tonne Bronto Skylift – a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP).The spreader rig was assembled in line with computer-aided design (CAD) drawings of the MEWP.Steve Hutin, managing director of Rope and Sling Specialists, said: “We only had half a day to design the assembly of the rig and deliver it to the site but we were able to use CAD drawings to calculate the centre of gravity – the load was heavier at one end – and we knew we could use the outriggers as pick up points.”Access was required to make a repair to a support truss on the bridge’s northern pier. The pier from the north tower is sited on the Mackintosh Rock, a whinstone outcrop that made for an ideal foundation during construction, said Rope and Sling Specialists. www.modulift.comwww.ropeandsling.co.ukwww.amey.co.uk
Town Council wants to stop violence at Lani Kai on Fort Myers Beach Do you see a typo or an error? Let us know. Published: May 30, 2017 5:15 AM EDT Suspect in Portland light rail slayings to appear in court Man sentenced to life in prison for murder of ex-girlfriend in Cape Coral PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) The man police say fatally stabbed two other men who tried to shield young women from an anti-Muslim tirade on a Portland, Oregon, light-rail train makes his initial court appearance Monday and the city’s mayor says he hopes the slayings will inspire “changes in the political dialogue in this country.”Jeremy Joseph Christian, 35, faces two counts of felony aggravated murder and other charges. The attack happened Friday, the first day of Ramadan, the holiest time of the year for Muslims. Authorities say Christian started verbally abusing two young women, including one wearing a hijab. Three other men on the train intervened before police say Christian attacked them, killing two and wounding one.President Donald Trump condemned the stabbings, writing Monday on Twitter: “The violent attacks in Portland on Friday are unacceptable. The victims were standing up to hate and intolerance. Our prayers are w/ them.”Mayor Ted Wheeler said he appreciated Trump’s words but stressed the need for action. Wheeler urged organizers to cancel a “Trump Free Speech Rally” in Portland and other similar events next weekend, saying they are inappropriate and could be dangerous.“I hope we rise to the memory of these two gentlemen who lost their lives,” the mayor told reporters. “Let’s do them honor by standing with them and carrying on their legacy of standing up to hate and bigotry and violence.”Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, 23, and Ricky John Best, 53, were killed as they tried to stop the harassment.Christian’s social media postings indicate an affinity for Nazis and political violence. He is accused of aggravated murder, intimidation – the state equivalent of a hate crime – and being a felon in possession of a weapon.Christian served prison time after holding up employees at a convenience store with a gun in 2002, court records show. Telephone messages left at the home of Christian’s mother Sunday and Monday were not returned. It was not clear if he had a lawyer yet.The mother of one of the targets of the rant said she was overwhelmed with gratitude and sadness for the strangers who died defending her daughter, 16-year-old Destinee Mangum.Mangum told news station KPTV that she and her 17-year-old friend were riding the train when Christian started yelling at them. She said her friend is Muslim, but she’s not.“He told us to go back to Saudi Arabia, and he told us we shouldn’t be here, to get out of his country,” Mangum said. “He was just telling us that we basically weren’t anything and that we should kill ourselves.”The teens moved toward the back of the train, preparing to get off at the next stop.“And then we turned around while they were fighting, and he just started stabbing people, and it was just blood everywhere, and we just started running for our lives,” Mangum said.Micah David-Cole Fletcher, 21, was stabbed in the neck. His girlfriend, Miranda Helm, told The Oregonian/OregonLive that he was recovering his strength in the hospital.A Facebook page for the event says there would be speakers and live music in “one of the most liberal areas on the West Coast.” It says it will feature Kyle Chapman, who describes himself as an American nationalist and ardent supporter of Trump.Chapman was arrested at a March 4 protest in Berkeley, the birthplace of the U.S. free speech movement in the 1960s that has become a flashpoint for the extreme left and right since Trump’s election. The University of California, Berkeley, has been criticized for canceling an appearance by conservative commentator Ann Coulter in April and another by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos in February. It canceled Coulter’s speech amid threats of violence, fearing a repeat of rioting ahead of the Yiannopoulos event.Wheeler’s call for the rally to be cancelled comes amid a wider debate in the U.S. about the First Amendment, often in liberal cities like Portland and Berkeley, California, and on college campuses, where violent protests between far-right and far-left protesters have derailed appearances by contentious figures. CHINA: The first Passenger-Dedicated Line between central and western China opened on February 6, with 456 km of new high speed line cutting the 505 km journey between Zhengzhou in Henan province and Xi’an in Shaanxi from around 6 h to less than 2 h.Construction was launched in September 2005 under the medium and long-term railway development plan which the government had approved the previous year (RG 9.09 p31). Ansaldo STS and Beijing HollySys supplied signalling equipment for the route, around 77% of which is on viaduct or in tunnel. The total cost was 35·3bn yuan. The alignment has been designed for 350 km/h running, and a pre-opening test train reached 352 km/h when covering the route in 1 h 48 min. The regular service comprises 14 trains a day. ‘By 2012 it will take less than 8 h to travel by train from Beijing to most provincial capitals’, predicted Long Jing, head of Chinese Railways’ Xi’an bureau.

New Study Reveals Retailers Lagging on EMV Card Technology TransitionDespite a deadline of October 2015, 42 percent of retailers have yet to update payment terminals to be EMV compliant. What’s even more startling is that 43 percent of retailers which suffered some sort of data breach in the past five years have not made the technology transition, according to a new Cardhub study, which notes there are $8 billion fraudulent card purchases each year in the U.S. Financial institutions, notes Cardhub research analyst Alina Comoreanu, have been the most active and progressive in moving to EMV, replacing the traditional magnetic striped card security technology with a card housing a computer chip. “The retailer response, however, has been shockingly muted by comparison,” notes Comoreanu. Maricris Espiritu was sentenced Wednesday after pleading no contest to first-degree theft. She has also been ordered to pay back what she stole. Prosecutors say Espiritu, who handled the cash register at the park, would pocket the money that guests used to pay for photo packages of themselves swimming with dolphins. The theft occurred between July 2011 and December 2012. Sea Life Park was alerted to the illegal activity after noticing discrepancies in the amounts of cash receipts when Espiritu worked and when she was off. Authorities say she was caught stealing on video surveillance. The payments provider now has seven innovation hubs worldwide, from Silicon Valley to Nairobi. In its Dublin office, Mastercard is focusing on developing disruptive technology that retailers and consumers alike can use. From a bracelet that authenticates payments through the wearer’s heartbeat, to virtual reality-enabled gift cards, Mastercard’s range of technology tests are certainly diverse. But there’s one buzzword that is strictly off limits. Chief innovation officer Garry Lyons says: “We have a philosophy at Mastercard that cool doesn’t cut it. “It might be fantastic to pay with Google Glass but our technology needs to be easy to adopt, highly scalable and serve a genuine need for customers and retailers if it’s going to have a future.” Mastercard has identified 12 technology trends which Lyons says will have “a genuine impact on commerce in the next five to 10 years” and is developing technology to serve each of those needs. “We’re not just talking about the future, we’re trying to create it,” declares Lyons. The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technology Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Tags:#Apple#mobile#web Related Posts What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement john paul titlow As far as iOS apps go, the native email client for iPhone is pretty bare bones and not especially pretty. It’s kind of weird when you think about it. Here’s Apple, a company known around the world for the quality of its design and attention to detail, and the app they put out for one of the activities people do most on their phones? It looks like a conglomeration of cookie-cutter UI elements for iOS, all slapped together. Now here comes Sparrow. The minimalist, Tweetie-inspired Gmail client for Mac desktops landed on the iPhone today and as far as users of compatible email services are concerned, it makes Apple’s native email app look even more stale. At first glance, the UI of Sparrow for iPhone looks similar to that of Facebook’s iOS app. It has the same basic layout and color scheme, with the same menu button in the upper left. When tapped, that button reveals a horizontal menu on a grey background, from which you can navigate your inbox, sent mail, starred emails, tags and so forth. The app’s similarities to Facebook begin and end with the color scheme and layout. What Sparrow has put together is actually much prettier and more fluid than what even a social networking behemoth has managed produce. Almost every swipe and tap is accompanied by some smooth little animation. Getting around the app is intuitive and even somewhat enjoyable, thanks to the thought that they put into the design. One of Sparrow’s advisers is Path founder Dave Morin, as is John Maeda so it’s probably no freak accident that this app has such a pleasant user experience. The DrawbacksNot every user is going to be able to use Sparrow. It is, first and foremost a Gmail client, but it also works with Google Apps, Yahoo, iCloud, MobileMe, AOL and custom IMAP email accounts. Users who prefer to use POP for their email should look elsewhere. By far the biggest complaint about Sparrow for iPhone is its lack of push notifications. Personally, I don’t mind this because I check my email frequently enough that I don’t need to get those distracting notifications. But this is indeed a very important feature for many people. There are some technical restrictions that prevented the Sparrow team from implementing push notifications properly in this version, but it’s something they’re hoping to include in a future version. Get Ready to Bump “Mail” From Your iPhone DockIf you use a compatible email service and don’t mind the lack of push notifications, what Sparrow offers is probably going to be much more enjoyable to use than Apple’s mobile Mail app. Within 15 minutes of downloading Sparrow and putting it through its paces, I bumped the Mail app from my iPhone’s home screen dock and replaced it with Sparrow. Despite the fact that iOS won’t let you designate a third party app as your default email client on the iPhone, Sparrow makes a worthy replacement to what ships natively on the device. Saina prevailed 21-17, 21-18 over Shixian in a gruelling women’s singles match.Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal dished out a dominating performance to post a straight-game win over two-time All England Champion Shixian Wang of China and start her campaign on a positive note at the season-ending BWF’s World Super Series badminton final on Wednesday.A 2011 finalist, Saina showed great temperament and good repertoire of strokes to tame the former World No.1 Shixian, who had beaten the Indian four times in their last five meetings. The China Open winner, Saina prevailed 21-17, 21-18 over Shixian in a gruelling women’s singles match that lasted little less than an hour at the Hamdan Sports Complex.Saina kept the Chinese on a tight lease right from the start and the result was an intense battle of nerves. The intensity of the clash was palpable as Saina produced a fast-paced game and engaged Shixian in rallies which drained out the Chinese. After a close fight till 7-7, Shixian picked up a couple of points at the deep backhand corner and forecourt of Saina to open up a slender 10-8 lead. The Indian, however, didn’t panic and gave a brilliant account of her temperament and preparation as she reeled off 10 straight points to move to 18-10.Shixian grabbed three points before Saina produced an accurate smash which was initially called out but a video referral challenge ensured she got the crucial point. Shixian then handed the game point chance to Saina when she hit wide.advertisementThe Indian had a chance to close it next but she hit wide. Shixian then produced a clever shot and exploited Saina’s back hand to grab two more points. Saina then handed over another point to Shixian when she made a judgement error at the baseline. But Shixian hit long next after an intense rally as Saina earned the bragging right. The second game started on a similar note as the lead exchanged hands very frequently with both the players engaging in longer rallies and pushing the other to commit errors. There was not much to differentiate between the two and it boiled down to accuracy in strokes. After a slender 2-0 lead, Saina saw Shixian surge ahead to 8-4. But egged on by the crowd, who chanted ‘Saina Saina’ and ‘India India’, Saina erased the deficit and clawed back at 9-9 with Shixian finding the net.Saina did miss a point after committing a service error but the Indian moved into the interval with her head held high, leading 11-10.The Indian showed good anticipation and kept sending the shuttle back to her opponent’s court, forcing Shixian to commit an error. Her ploy reaped her dividends as Saina lead 14-11 after a point.Saina pounced on each opportunity, gaining points with her sharp net play and from the unforced errors committed by the Chinese. As the match waned, mistakes cropped in Shixian’s game as Saina lead 18-14.Shixian also played some immaculate shots to keep breathing down Saina’s neck but the Indian soon hit a body smash and then produced a deceiving block at the net to move to a healthy four-match point advantage. The Chinese erased two match point after Saina tapped one wide and then failed to breach Shixian’s defence but with her cross court return getting buried at the nets, it was celebration for the Indian.
